This Privacy Policy explains how FasTyping ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use fastyping.me (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Who we are

FasTyping is a free online typing practice platform. If you have any questions about this policy or your personal data, you can contact us at contact@fastyping.me.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: the name and email address you provide when registering, or the name, email, and profile picture provided by Google or Facebook if you sign in with those providers.
  • Usage data: your typing practice results, lesson progress, and settings, stored against your account.
  • Local device storage: your authentication session, theme preference, language preference, and cookie-consent choice, stored in your browser's local storage (not as cookies).
  • Analytics data: anonymized, aggregated usage statistics (e.g. pages visited, referrer, country-level location, device/browser type), collected only if you consent to analytics, through our self-hosted, cookie-less Umami analytics.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including your account and typing progress.
  • Authenticate you and keep you signed in.
  • Remember your preferences (theme, language).
  • Understand how the Service is used, in aggregate, to improve it — only with your consent to analytics.
  • Communicate with you about your account, when necessary.

4. Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK users)

Where applicable, we process your data on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you requested), legitimate interest (to keep the Service secure and functioning), and consent (for optional analytics, which you can withdraw at any time via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer).

5. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited information with:

  • Google or Facebook, if you choose to sign in using those providers (standard OAuth data exchange).
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf, under appropriate confidentiality obligations.
  • Authorities, where required by law.

6. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to its processing, to request data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@fastyping.me.

8. Cookies and local storage

The Service does not use tracking cookies. It uses browser local storage for essential functionality and, if you consent, a cookie-less analytics tool. See our Cookie Policy for details.

9. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data without appropriate consent, please contact us so we can remove it.
